Spanish reservists can now train online

For reservists, taking days or weeks off work to train is not always very easy. A group of Spanish reservists, have been granted funding to develop a project to create an e-learning platform that allows fellow citizen-soldiers to take courses online.
The Spanish Ministry of Defence has funded a new project to train reservists online. The project called Interactive Training Centre for Defence Knowledge (Centro de Formación Interactiva para la Cultura de la Defensa), can train up to 200 reservists per month. This interactive centre is an e-learning platform, based on Moodle technology that has been developed by a group of Spanish reserve officers, very keen to promote easy access to training by fellow reservists. Spain's largest reservist association, ARES, has enthusiastically joined the effort.
According to its creators, the e-learning centre significantly reduces training costs because, to take the course the reservist doesn’t necessarily need to be activated, let alone mobilised to any of the country’s military schools. Even civilians can enroll in many of the programmes because one of the goals of this project is brining society closer to its military by promoting security and defence values and knowledge.
The project has just been launched in early Octobre and it has already four interactive courses on offer, including a new Military English Course. The centre has plans to launch up to 15 new courses in 2010. Its leaders, also plan on trying to liase with international bodies like NATO School or CIOR Language Academy to offer joint programms, taught in Spanish or English.
